Dr Mia Huengsberg

Dr Mia HuengsbergUntil taking up her placement, Dr Huengsberg was a Consultant working in HIV medicine at the Heart of Birmingham teaching Primary Care Trust. She’s worked in the medical profession for over two decades and for the last 15 years has specialised in HIV and AIDS.

Her placement at St Benedict’s Hospital, in Ndanda, Tanzania involves heading a project that aims to improve standards of care for people with HIV and AIDS and drastically reduce the number of children who contract HIV from their own mothers at birth or in early infancy.

Her extensive teaching experience will be vital to this work. A key part of her role will be to create profound, long-term change by passing on crucial knowledge to local medical staff – leaving behind a legacy of change that will endure long after she returns home.
